What's a Furnace Filter?
Every furnace has a filter. The furnace filter helps remove dirt and dust from the air in order to improve the air quality in your home. The filter must be changed periodically in order to keep the furnace working properly.

Most furnace filters are disposable. There is no exact science on choosing the perfect time to change out the filter. However, it is important to follow the guidelines provided by the manufacturer of your particular furnace.
Determining how often you need to replace the filter is dependent on a number of factors, including:
- Type of furnace
- Type of filter
- How often the furnace is used
- Number of puts (if any)
- Presence of tobacco smoke
